Marble Care
Congratulations! You're now a proud owner of a Quarrykeys made stone product. Marble is one of the world’s great natural beauties; completely unique in every piece and undeniably striking in every way. Natural stone however, is inherently porous and requires proper care to maintain its beauty and longevity.
Every Quarrykeys product is shipped with a sealer and polish coat. It is important to know that even a sealed surface cannot avoid stains if moisture is not wiped off immediately. Sealers are meant to give you time to clean a spill. If you leave moisture on a surface, it will eventually seep past the sealer and into the stone’s pores.
How do you tell if your stone product is protected? At first glance, a treated and untreated surface will look mostly identical. The easiest way to tell if a surface has been sealed is to lightly apply moisture to the surface and observe how it behaves. Moisture on a sealed surface will bead like the image on the left below. Moisture on an unsealed, raw or older surface will spread out, absorb into and darken the surface after a few minutes (see image on the right below). If this happens, this means moisture has penetrated the surface and it’s time to reseal the stone.
How do I protect my product when the seal wears off? There are a number of penetrating sealers you can use to protect your beautiful case. We recommend Miracle Sealants 511 Impregnator but as long as you check that the product acts as an impregnator or penetrating sealer for natural stone, it should work fine.
How often do I need to re-seal my stone case? Your mileage will vary from one case to the next, as well as based on your usage. Sealer on areas with higher contact will likely wear faster. In general, you may need to reseal your case after a couple of years (based on other similar recommendations for other marble products), but we recommend testing the permeability of your case with a little bit of water once a year just to be safe.
